COVID Rules for Group Rides

When we host Group Rides, here are the COVID-19 Rules:

  • The WMBC abides by the Reopening Ontario Guidelines

  • Do not come out to a Group Ride if you are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms. Stay home, rest up and we’ll see you next week.

  • If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 symptoms or that has tested positive, consider taking Ontario’s on-line COVID-19 Screening Survey to determine if you should come out.

  • Pack a mask and small bottle of hand sanitizer

  • Physical distancing needs to be observed. Please keep a 2 m distance between non-family members.

  • Group sizes will be limited to 8 including the Group Ride Leaders

  • While riding on the trail, keep a 3-4 bike length distance between you and the rider in front

  • At rest stops, maintain a 2 m distance between you and other riders

  • While packing up after the ride, do not linger. This will minimize congestion in the parking lot area

  • Each Family needs at least one parent. You can’t drop your kids off.

  • Your kids need to be able to pedal a 2-wheel bike comfortably.

  • Groups will be formed based on ages, abilities and families that come out.

Group Ride Leader Tips

  • Get to know each other, introduce yourselves

  • Ride leader to identify a sweep (The sweep’s job is to make sure absolutely NO RIDER gets behind)

  • Discuss Route, and approximate length of the ride

  • The leader should always make stops at regular intervals to allow for regrouping.

  • Don’t loose the rider behind you

  • Adjust pace based on slowest rider, if you are constantly waiting for everyone to catch up at intersections the leader needs to SLOW DOWN

  • Share cell phone numbers (Ride leader and Sweep)

  • If you get lost wait at the last intersection, the ride leader or sweep will backtrack to find you. (two moving objects can never find each other)

  • If a rider or two really want to bail, tell them to let the leader or sweep know, and make sure that they understand how to get back to the trailhead.

  • Keep it FUN!!
